About NetInspect

What it does

NetInspect is a free set of network diagnostic tools. You can ping a host, look up the registration data of an IP address (through the RDAP services of the regional internet registries) and read the DNS records of a domain. The checks run from our servers, so they show how the host looks from the public internet, not from your own network.

Limits

  • Only public internet addresses and names can be checked. Private, loopback, link-local and other internal targets are refused.
  • Each visitor can run up to 10 pings, 20 WHOIS lookups and 30 DNS lookups per minute. Pings to one address are also limited across all visitors.
  • A ping sends exactly 4 small packets and takes a few seconds at most.
  • Results may be cached briefly: ping for 30 seconds, DNS for up to 5 minutes and WHOIS data for up to 24 hours.

Privacy

  • No registration and no accounts. With your consent we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and see which tools are used. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is sent. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer. There are no advertising cookies and no ad personalisation.
  • Your lookups are not saved to a history.
  • The "What's my IP address?" box shows you the address your connection presents to us. It is read from the request, sent back to you only, and not stored; it is never cached.
  • Our application logs keep only shortened IP addresses (the last part of an IPv4 address and the last 80 bits of an IPv6 address are removed) and are deleted after 30 days.
  • To answer a lookup, the target you enter is sent to public DNS resolvers, to the registry that manages the IP address and, for ASN data, to a public routing data service. Your own IP address is not sent to them.
